About Tidal Magazine

Tidal Magazine is an independent online and print publication—we’re a small and self-funded operation run by volunteers. Our team is dedicated to celebrating marginalized voices and telling stories at the intersection of fashion, art, and culture. Our readers turn to us for thoughtful editorial content and fresh perspectives that inspire and challenge the status quo.

Role Overview

We’re looking for a creative, inspired, and driven individual to help work with the creative team to determine the visual direction of Tidal Online. In this role, you’ll be responsible for reviewing pitches and submissions, working directly with outside creatives to align their vision with Tidal’s aesthetic, and attend shoots to lend creative and production support. We’re looking for someone who has a collaborative spirit, and a love for the creative process. You’ll work directly with the Editor-in-Chief Anna Wolf, and the rest of the Tidal Online creative and production team, gaining mentorship while having the freedom to experiment and explore new ideas.

Key Responsibilities

Pitches and Submissions: Review all pitches and submissions along side the creative team. Give feedback to photographers to ensure their shoot is successfully executed and aligned with Tidal’s aesthetic.

Collaboration: Join the bi-monthly creative call (usually about an hour long) to talk through upcoming creative. Be prepared to jump into creative collaboration via Slack (daily) when the creative or production team needs help reviewing or suggesting creative direction.

On-Set Production: Attend photo shoots to act as creative and production support. Capture behind-the-scenes moments for Tidal’s socials(when available).

Editorial Ideation: You’ll be working alongside the entire creative and production team and will have the opportunity to present and produce your own editorial ideas. (optional)

Who You Are

Passionate: You’re genuinely interested in fashion, culture, and storytelling and want to help grow a brand with huge potential.

Creative & Organized: You have an eye for sophisticated design and art direction and enjoy supporting content that resonates with audiences, while also staying organized and meeting deadlines.

Detailed and Accessible: You’re available and eager to dive into Google Docs or Dropbox to review creative and give suggestions for crew. And you are quick to respond on Slack, email and text message.

Eager to Learn: You’re excited about getting hands-on experience, love collaborating with a positive attitude, and want to grow your skills in a real-world setting.

Adaptable: You thrive in a fast-paced environment and are comfortable juggling your day job, personal life and passion projects.

Qualifications

Some experience in editorial or art direction is a plus, but we’re mainly looking for someone who is enthusiastic and ready to jump in!
